A proper butcher on Sandbed

Do you remember butchers of old? The ones who knew where every cut came from and prepared it exactly the way you asked. That is what we do here on Sandbed, right in the heart of Hawick. We work with local farms and local game, so the beef, lamb and pork on our counter can be traced back to the fields it came from. Nothing is rushed and nothing is padded out. Our bacon is cured properly, so it fries in the pan instead of stewing in a puddle of water. Our sausages, black pudding and haggis are made in-house to recipes we stand behind. Come in for a stew, a Sunday roast or a Christmas turkey and we will help you pick the right thing and cut it to suit. People travel from as far as Fife for it, and we are glad to see them.

Paul Brough via Google

“Going Native is a treasure. I don’t eat much meat but when I do it’s brilliant to be able to get such high quality meat, with provenance, just around the corner in Sandbed. For the New Year I bought a large quantity of steak for a stew and it was absolutely top quality. …”

Good to know

A few things folk often ask before they pop in.

Where does your meat come from?
It's locally sourced, so we can tell you where it came from. We work with nearby farms for our beef, lamb and pork, and our game is locally caught and prepared here in the shop.
Do you deliver?
Yes, we offer delivery. Give us a call on 01450 363331 to talk through what you need and we'll sort it out.
Do you make your own sausages, black pudding and haggis?
We do. The sausages, black pudding and haggis are made in-house, and our bacon is cured properly so it fries instead of stewing in water.
Can I place a special order for Christmas or a big occasion?
Of course. We regularly do festive turkeys and larger orders for stews and gatherings. Order ahead by phone and we'll cut and prepare it to suit you.
Can you cut meat to a particular size or recipe?
That's the point of a proper butcher. Tell us what you're cooking and we'll trim and cut it the way you need, whether it's steak for a stew or a joint for the roast.
Where are you and is there parking nearby?
We're at 6 Sandbed, right in the centre of Hawick. There's parking close by, and if you're unsure just give us a call before you set off.
